Western Interpreting Network Launches New Video Relay Service
TEMECULA, CA -- December 8, 2009 -- Western Interpreting Network (WIN) has launched a new Video Relay Service (VRS) to connect Deaf and hard of hearing people with the hearing community via telephone.
VRS leverages the Internet and videoconferencing technology to create a nearly seamless telephone connection between those who can hear and sign language users who cannot. The service is very popular in the Deaf community and hearing people prefer the newer technology over the old "traditional" telephone relay services where everything had to be typed.
The new service, operating under the company's WIN.tv division, has been in the works since Summer.
"We are excited to finally launch," said Moon Feris, Vice President of WIN. "We feel it is important for us to bring the Deaf consumer perspective to VRS. We want the Deaf community to know they have choices and that we are here and have a solid foundation in providing top-quality interpreters."
But developing a unique VRS brand and service comes with new challenges.
"Launching a VRS service is a big investment for a small company such as WIN," admits Moon. "Our interpreters are the best. Yet we expect evolving regulations to impact the industry. Hopefully small businesses like ours will continue to have the opportunity to bring our enthusiasm, innovation, and much-needed relevance to the market."
The new service can be used by calling WIN.tv from any videophone. For more information, visit the website, http://www.win.tv.
